Consular officers are allowed to authenticate powers of attorney that are to be used in dealings with a French notary public (mainly powers of attorney to sell and buy real estate).
Depending on the purpose of the deed, your notary public in France may ask you to have your signature legalised on a private deed ("acte sous seing privé") or to get the document authenticated by a consular officer acting as a notary public.
Requirements and fees are very different for these two procedures. So you are advised to contact the consular section (tel : 603 2053 5561) if you intend to have documents notarised.
You transfer your main residence to France
You are exempted of custom taxes on your personal belongings if you have been living outside the EU for more than 12 months.
The Embassy does not provide any translation services but we have a list of registered translators whose signature we can legalise.
