Renowned French specialist in pantun George Voisset was in Malaysia recently in conjunction with the French Art and Film Festival to talk about his latest book The very curious stories of Kancil (Les très curieuses histoires de Kancil le petit chevrotain), a translation of tales of the archipelago written in the late 19th century.

George Voisset also met local academicians to talk about the famous pantun, said to originate from Malaysia, which he has been passionately studying and translating for many years.
After two consecutive conferences at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) on May 22 and the University of Malaya (UM) on May 25, George Voisset went to Penang to meet with students and lecturers at the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) on May 28. The Alliance Française of Penang has also hosted two evenings for him to organise a writing workshop as well as a reading and autograph session of his latest book. The Alliance Française Kuala Lumpur will be opening its doors on June 5 from 7.30 pm onwards to present his book, his work as a translator and author and to autograph his collection of stories.
